How much is R&D relief worth?
For accounting periods starting on or after 1 April 2024, most companies claim through the merged scheme: a 20% taxable credit on qualifying costs. Loss‑making SMEs that spend at least 30% of their total costs on R&D may claim enhanced support instead.
Do I need to tell HMRC before claiming?
If you are claiming for the first time, or have not claimed in the last three years, you must submit a claim notification within six months of the end of the accounting period.
What counts as R&D?
Work that seeks an advance in science or technology by resolving uncertainty a competent professional could not easily resolve. Routine development usually does not qualify, so we review projects with you first.
