Why take a small salary and dividends?
Salary up to the personal allowance is usually tax‑free and builds your State Pension record, and dividends avoid National Insurance. The best mix depends on your profit and other income.
Does the Employment Allowance help?
Not if you are the company’s only employee and a director — the Employment Allowance is not available to single‑director companies with no other staff. The calculator assumes that case.
What isn’t included?
Pension contributions, other income, student loans, associated companies and Scottish tax rates. We include all of these when we plan your pay.
